In our environment, most work centers are tied to a single machine, so the work center itself identifies the equipment. However, some work centers contain multiple machines that can perform the same operation. For traceability, reporting, maintenance analysis, and quality investigations, we'd like to know exactly which machine was used for a particular Manufacturing Order or operation.
How do you capture the actual machine/equipment used when multiple machines exist within a work center?
We'll be re-evaluating our work center setup, but right now one of our WCs represents a few different lines/machines. We have a custom reporting app that they use at each line, and when line 3 reports their MO, the app updates text line 2 in the MO header to reflect what line did the reporting. Not ideal, but works for now with our current reporting.
All your machines should be defined as work center and you have a generic work center representing multiple machines for planning and MO creation. When reporting an operation, you can report the actual machine into to "Dev Work Center"
When reporting an operation, there is an option to report a resource for a work center (see PDS010/J for setup). As I recall, a resource must be listed as an item in MMS001, but I think it is meant for the purpose you are looking for. It is recorded in MWOPTR, but I don't know where else it is seen in M3 as we are not currently using it. The field will be shown in the MO Operation report screens (PMS42#) if activated in the work center.
Hi Karen, You'd probably have to create the machines as work centers in PDS010. You'd have to make some other changes to make that work within your process without compromising your planning, but that would capture the work and the hours in the most transparent way.
